Here’s what educators are saying about Abena’s Big Dream

This is a must-have book for parents and children. This is a great book to read and teach children about emotions and how to figure out the best way to overcome challenges like speech impediments. It also shows that it is okay to have challenges. It doesn’t change who we are. It teaches kids about being kind to each other. I adore this book and the message it presents! I remember how difficult it was to teach my children how to handle wanting to fit in. Using the coloring book, which presents gorgeous illustrations and an engaging method of storytelling with a vocabulary that appeals to a wide variety of ages without being too simple or too complex is absolutely perfect.

It is a wonderful social-emotional tool for parents, counselors, and teachers! I wish every classroom in the world could have a copy of this book and the resources! My favorite thing about “Abena’s Big Dream” is that it focuses on the ways kids can recover from feeling isolated or different. It has a very positive message of the value of each person’s uniqueness explained in simple terms that can be understood at a young age. And I love that the book features a family of color.

It is a book geared towards students in K-2nd grades filled with beautiful words and messages of affirmation. The book will also allow conversations amongst classes pertaining to various Social Emotional skills and topics. The main point in the book is, “It’s possible. I can achieve my dreams if I work hard at it.” The accompanying workbook has a tremendous variety of cross curricular activities which will reinforce the issues of love, tolerance and togetherness touched on in the story. Based in Ghana, and filled with pictures and maps which refer to the lovely land and landscape, Abena’s Big Dream is a perfect book to bring into any K-2 curriculum. It is a story of perseverance and commitment, supported by the love of a strong family member who puts the vision of greatness within her granddaughter.”
